From Bergeron, LA Confed. Units, 39-41:

"The regiment was organized at Baton Rouge on September 11, 1861. Ordered to Nashville, Tennessee, the regiment traveled by steamer to Memphis and from there by train to Nashville. From the latter place, the men rode to Bowling Green, Kentucky, to report to General Albert S. Johnston, and went into winter quarters there. When the Confederate army evacuated Bowling Green in February, 1862, the regiment accompanied it to Nashville. On March 9, a detachment of the regiment fought a skirmish near the city and drove the enemy back. The men participated in the Battle of Shiloh, April 6-7, and fought in several skirmishes in northern Alabama on May 1 and 2. After receiving orders to report to East Tennessee, the regiment took its station at Kingston; it occasionally skirmished with the enemy during the summer of 1862. Colonel Scott took command of a small cavalry brigade and led it on a raid into Kentucky in August. The brigade fought skirmishes at Loudon, Big Hill, and Richmond. Accompanying General Edmund Kirby Smith on his invasion of Kentucky, the regiment captured Frankfort on September 3 and raised its flag over the state capitol. From September 13 to 17, the men fought in the siege of Mumfordville and witnessed the surrender of the Federal garrison. The regiment held a position on the right flank of General Braxton Bragg’s army during the Battle of Perryville, October 8, and retreated with the army back to middle Tennessee. After playing a minor role in the Battle of Murfreesboro, the regiment returned to East Tennessee. From March 22 to April 1, 1863, the regiment participated in a raid into Kentucky and fought in several skirmishes there. Scott again received brigade command and occupied Kingston, Tennessee, for several months. From July 25 to August 6, the brigade conducted a raid into Kentucky. The regiment lost 100 men, who were captured in a skirmish near Lancaster on July 31. Scott’s brigade moved from Knoxville to join Bragg’s army in northern Georgia and saw hard action in the battle of Chickamauga, September 19-20. Following this battle, the regiment served as the army’s headquarters guard. The men participated in the Battle of Missionary Ridge, November 25. During the early months of 1864, the regiment was stationed at Dalton, Georgia. The men received orders to report to the District of Southwest Mississippi and East Louisiana in April, 1864. They made an unsuccessful attack on a Union stockade fort near Mount Pleasant Landing south of Port Hudson on May 15. In late June, the regiment moved to Jackson, Mississippi; and it fought with an enemy force moving toward that city from Vicksburg, July 3-7. Returning to eastern Louisiana, the regiment participated in skirmishes at Doyal’s Plantation on August 5 and at Thompson’s Creek on October 5. An enemy raiding party pushed the regiment out of Liberty, Mississippi on November 18 and caused severe losses. After following enemy cavalry that was raiding from Baton Rouge to Pascagoula, Mississippi, in December, the regiment moved into northern Mississippi. The men fought in several skirmishes near Columbus in early 1865. The regiment surrendered May 5, 1865, near Gainesville, Alabama."
