"1st Special Battalion [Wheat's] ... Company D (2nd), Old Dominion Guards (Orleans), organized as Company E, became independent company mounted infantry, September 1, 1862.  Obed P. Miller."

"Miller's Mounted Rifles Company Cavalry.  Captain Obed P. Miller.  Organized September 1, 1862, at Lynchburg, Virginia, from men formerly in 2nd Company D, 1st Louisiana Special Battalion Infantry.  Men assigned to Robinson's Horse Artillery in June, 1863."
