Ogden’s Regiment Volunteer Cavalry

[Companies   F&S   A   B   C   D     F   G   H   I   K   ?]

From Sifakis, Compendium of C.S. Armies: Louisiana, 58-59:

Organization: Organized by the assignment of one company from Ogden’s Cavalry Battalion, four companies from the 14th Confederate Cavalry Regiment, three companies from Gober’s Mounted Infantry Regiment; and two new companies to form a regiment in January 1865. Companies D, E, G, and H, 14th Confederate Cavalry Regiment became Companies A, I, C, and E, respectively, of this regiment. Surrendered by Lieutenant General Richard Taylor, commanding the Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and East Louisiana, at Citronelle, Alabama on May 4, 1865.

First Commander: Frederick N. Ogden, COL

Assignments: Scott’s Cavalry Brigade, District of North Mississippi and East Louisiana, Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and East Louisiana (Jan-Feb 65); Sub-district of Southeastern Louisiana, District of Mississippi and East Louisiana, Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and East Louisiana [Companies G & H] (Jan-Feb 65); Scott’s Cavalry Brigade, District of North Mississippi and West Tennessee, Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and East Louisiana (Feb-May 65); Sub-district off Southeastern Louisiana, District of Southern Mississippi and East Louisiana, Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and East Louisiana [Companies G & H] (Feb-Apr 65)

From Bergeron, LA Confed. Units, 54:

"This regiment was probably organized in January, 1865, possibly in Mississippi. Ogden received under his command three or four companies from Gober’s Regiment Mounted Infantry, three companies formerly with the 14th Confederate Cavalry Regiment, one company from his own temporary battalion, and two recently organized companies. These two new companies, G and H, and possibly one or more of the others, because of their familiarity with the countryside, operated along the lower Amite River and near the Mississippi River south of Baton Rouge until about April, 1865. The other companies participated in the marches and engagements of Colonel John Scott’s cavalry brigade in northern and central Mississippi. In April, the companies all united near Meridian; they were surrendered at Gainesville, Alabama, on May 12, 1865."
