"... By the end of the year [1864], the battery [Barnes' 1st Regular] had transferred to Major Charles Squires's battalion attached to General John H. Forney's infantry division. ..."

"Squires’ Artillery Battalion was made up of Barnes’ [1st Regular Battery], Benton’s [3rd Battery; Bell Battery], Gordy’s [1st Battery; St. Mary’s Cannoneers], and Winchester’s [5th Battery; Pelican Artillery] batteries. For some reason, men from some of these batteries were paroled as belonging to the battalion rather than their battery."
