Disaster at Home

The Fall of New Orleans,

April 1862

1st Regiment Heavy, 1st, 2nd Batteries Artillery; 26th Regiment Infantry; Chalmette, Orleans Guard, Sumter Regiments, Volunteer State Troops Militia Infantry

The fall of the Crescent City to Federal forces in the spring of 1862, with focus on the Acadian units involved.  The 1^st Regiment Heavy Artillery did not contain many AIGs before October 1862, so the role of that unit in the fall of New Orleans will be cursory here.  Though the 26^th and 30^th Infantry contained substantial numbers of AIGs from their inception, their roles in the fall of New Orleans were small.  Emphasize the reaction of the rest of the state, especially the Bayou country, to the attack upon and fall of the Crescent City.
