Belmont battlefield, taken from Confederate Fort DeRussy, near Columbus on Kentucky side of Mississippi River. Confederate guns from the fort battled with Union gunboats and supported the infantry at Belmont. Confederate reinforcements crossed over from fort during the battle to aid troops encircled at the edge of the river.
