Fort Jackson, LA

April 18-26, 1862

The Mississippi River in front of fort. The Union fleet would have run past the fort near the far side of the river.

The front wall of the fort, facing the river. At the time of the battle the river came up to the base of the fort.  It is now protected by a levee.

The location of Fort St. Philip on the far side of the river.
