From Bergeron, La. Confed. Units, 122-24:

"This regiment was organized at Camp Lewis in New Orleans on January 3, 1862, by the addition of six independent companies to the 6th Louisiana Battalion.  The regiment had a strength of 879 men.  On January 4, the men moved to Camp Benjamin.  Several companies served on detached duty at Fort Jackson, Pass Manchac, and Berwick.  On March 11, the regiment left for Corinth, Mississippi.  The men fought in the Battle of Shiloh, April 6-7.  In the battle, Colonel Reichard had his horse shot from under him and Major Von Zinken lost three horses.  The regiment participated in a skirmish at Monterey on April 29 and in the Battle of Farmington on May 9.  After spending several months at Tupelo, the regiment accompanied the army on its invasion of Kentucky, August-October.  The men fought in the Battle of Perryville, October 8.  When the army went into winter quarters at Shelbyville, Tennessee, General Braxton Bragg ordered the consolidation of the regiment with the 13th Louisiana because of the heavy losses the two units had suffered.  This consolidation occurred November 30.  Each regiment made up five companies of the new unit [13th-20th Consolidated Regiment Infantry].  On February 3, 1865, at Mobile, Alabama, the consolidation was dissolved and the 20th Louisiana was combined with the 1st Louisiana Regulars and 16th Louisiana to form a new unit.  This unit participated in the Siege of Spanish Fort, March 27-April 8.  After the evacuation of Mobile, the men of the 20th Louisiana were combined into one company, designated Company H, Pelican Regiment.  As such, they surrendered at Gainesville on May 8."
