From Sifakis, Compendium of C.S. Armies: Louisiana, 90-91:

Organization: Organized at Camp Moore on August 13, 1861. Mustered into Confederate service on August 18, 1861. Failed at reorganization in the spring of 1862. The regiment was disbanded with the men assigned to the 13th and 20th Infantry Regiments and the 14th Sharpshooters Battalion on August 19, 1862. Ordered to be reorganized by S.O. #222, Adjutant and Inspector General’s Office, dated September 23, 1862. However, this was soon deemed to be impractical.

First Commander: Samuel F. Marks, COL

Field Officers: Robert H. Barrow, LTC; Edward G.W. Butler, Jr., MAJ [mortally wounded November 7, 1861]; Alexander Mason, MAJ [December 30, 1861]; James A. Ventress, Jr., MAJ [November 7, 1861; resigned December 30, 1861]

Assignments: McCown’s Brigade, 1st Geographical Division, Department #2 (Sep-Oct 61); Marks’ Brigade, McCown’s Division, 1st Geograpical Division, Department #2 (Oct 61-Feb 62); Marks’ Brigade, McCown’s Command, Department #2 (Feb-Mar 62); Fort Pillow, Department #2 (Mar 62); Russell’s Brigade, Clark’s Division, 1st Corps, Army of the Mississippi, Department #2 (Mar-Apr 62); MOUTON’s Brigade, Ruggles’ Division, 2nd Corps, Army of the Mississippi, Department #2 (Apr-Jun 62); MOUTON’s Brigade, 2nd Corps, Army of the Mississippi, Department #2 (Jun-Jul 62); MOUTON’s Brigade, Jones’ Division, Army of the Mississippi, Department #2 (Jul-Aug 62)

Battles: Belmont (November 7, 1861); Shiloh (April 6-7, 1862); Corinth Campaign (Apr-Jun 62); Farmington (May 9, 1862)

From Bergeron, La. Confed. Units, 99:

"This regiment was organized at Camp Moore on August 13, 1861, with 857 men. Ordered to Kentucky, the regiment became part of the garrison at Columbus. On November 7, the men fought in the Battle of Belmont, Missouri; 12 were killed and 42 were wounded. The regiment moved to Island No. 10 after the evacuation of Columbus and remained there until March 17, 1862, when it went to Fort Pillow. The regiment took 550 men into the Battle of Shiloh, April 6, and suffered heavily in a bayonet charge against an enemy artillery battery. Lieutenant John Cowley, who had lost his right arm at Belmont, lost is left arm in the battle. On May 9, the regiment participated in the Battle of Farmington, Mississippi; 12 of its men were killed, wounded, or missing. General Braxton Bragg ordered the regiment disbanded on August 19 because of its decline in numbers caused by battle casualties and illness. The men of Companies C, D, E, F, and G went into the 13th Louisiana Regiment; and those of Companies A, B, H, I, and K went into the 20th Louisiana Regiment. Some picked men were organized as part of the 14th Louisiana Battalion Sharpshooters."
