Acadian Memorial Located in downtown St. Martinville, LA, on the banks of the Bayou Teche, down the street from the famous Evangeline Oak, the Acadian Memorial is both a museum & a research center.  The Robert Dafford Mural is the highlight of the museum on the first floor.  Also important is the bronze Wall of Names at the opposite end of the main-floor museum that contains the name of nearly every Acadian who found refuge in LA from 1764-1813.  Upstairs is the research center where visitors can trace their Acadian ancestry in the Memorial's extensive database.  The Memorial's website is <acadianmemorial.org>.  A new feature of the website is its Ensemble Encore, which includes two superb essays by Dr. Carl A. Brasseaux at <acadianmemorial.org/english/ensembleencoreset.html>
"Against the Tide" "Against the Tide: The Story of the Cajun People of Louisiana."  Video produced by Zachary Richard for LPB (Louisiana Public Broadcasting), 2000.  A moving, factual depiction of Acadien/Cadien life & history from the beginning to the present; important Acadian/Cajun scholars Barry Ancelet, Shane Bernard, & Carl Brasseaux appear in the video, which can be obtained from <zacharyrichard.com/boutique.html>.  Note the persistence of the myth of Cajun indifference to the Confederate cause, the testing of which is a major theme of this project.

White, CEA White, Stephen A.  CEA.  <umoncton.ca/etudeacadiennes/centre/white/sha.html>.  Stephen White has included on the website for the Acadian Studies Center at the University of Moncton in New Brunswick family genealogies that will appear in the next installment of his magisterial Dictionnaire Généalogique des Familles Acadiennes.  Although these families were the ones who stayed in Canada, their genealogies can still be useful for tracing Louisiana lineages.
White, DGFA-1 White, Stephen A. Dictionnaire Généalogique des Familles Acadiennes, Premiere Partie, 1636 à 1714.  2 vols.  Moncton, NB: Centre d'Études Acadiennes, 1999.  This is now the standard genealogy of the Acadian people.  As the title reveals, like Arsenault's genealogy, it is in French, but it is easy to follow.  Like anything from the hand of Stephen A. White, it is a most reliable source based on solid scholarship & exhaustive research.  DGFA-2, still in production, will cover Acadian marriages from 1715-80.  Corrections to DGFA-1 can be found on the website for the Centre d'Études Acadiennes.
