Acadian
Immigrants to Baton Rouge/Manchac, 1785
As a Spanish report entitled "Acadians, Fort Bute, Bayou Manchac 1788"
in Voorhies, J., Some Late Eighteenth Century Louisianians, 524-25,
reveals,
many of
these immigrants settled just
north of Bayou Manchac near old British Fort Bute, which was at the
southern edge of the Baton Rouge District, hence the designation "Manchac" in the Comments column.
